WILPF SUPPORTS SUDAN SCHOOL BUILDING PROJECT  The Tucson Branch of WILPF has initiated a
great new project to help a southern Sudan community build a new high school.  Years and years of civil
war have taken a huge toll in their community.  Buildings, factories and families have been destroyed,
children have been orphaned, disabled, abandoned and abused.  We learned about the desperate
situation through Tucson’s  “Lost Boys of Sudan”, refugee young men who have come to Tucson to
rebuild their own lives.  Yet they are concerned about the devastation they left behind, and want to help
their community revive and nurture the thousands of young people who have a dim prospect for the
future.  Dok Sudanese Community Association (DSCA) has been formed by over 300 refugees in the U.S.,
Canada and Australia.  Its main goal is to change Southern Sudan through education, and promote
reconstruction and rehabilitation of Southern Sudan.  With the signing of the Comprehensive Peace
Agreement in January 2005, there is new hope that reconstruction projects can succeed.  DSCA’s goal is
to raise $80,000 by the end of 2008 to build a high school for 800 students. In 2006, their members had
collected $16,000.  In addition to money, they are also collecting school supplies and texts.  One donor
has offered storage space and shipping costs to send the supplies to Sudan.  If you know of special
outlets which could provide any of these supplies, please do contact them. Contact information: Mathew
Reer, 4562 E. Lester Street, Tucson, AZ  85712.   520-304-4711.  Their web site provides much
information on their circumstances and needs:  www.dsca.us

international protests against the world’s sole superpower’s plans to spend trillions for “full spectrum
dominance” of land, sea, air and SPACE. Tucson’s Raytheon Missiles Corp. is a key player, with its
Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle & more.  Check  http://disarm.wilpf.org   and www.space4peace.org

WATER USERS BILL OF RIGHTS to be voted November 6.  WILPF supports this issue!  It opposes the
privatization of Tucson Water, and provides that new infrastructure required by new growth be paid for by
that new growth, not taxpayer/ratepayer subsidies to developers. Check the election guide for full details.
