Help distribute fliers about Recruiters’ “exaggerations” in Tucson’s High Schools  WILPF member
Susan Thorpe has generated the enclosed excellent flier that challenges high school students to be wary about
military recruiters’ promises and offers alternative career choices.  Susan invites you to “adopt” an area high
school, and greet students as they arrive on campus with vital questions students need to ask the visiting
recruiters.  PLEASE CONTACT SUSAN for copies of the flier and tell her the schedule you would like for your
distribution.  Ask a friend to join you. Susan: 312-9988 or susan@susanthorpe.com.

Help WILPF’s initiative to seek weekly AZ Daily Star pages for P & J issues! The enclosed petition is to
show community support for peace, justice & environmental issues to be featured weekly in the Star.  It already
carries daily sports & business, and weekly food, gardening, entertainment segments. Isn’t it time for OUR issues
to be covered on a regular basis?  Make copies of the enclosed petition form, take them with you when you are
“out” and return the filled petition to Nancy Graham by March 8.  GREAT IDEA!!!

Who we are: Founded in 1915, the Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom (WILPF) works to
achieve through peaceful means: world disarmament, full rights for women, racial and economic justice, an end to
all forms of violence and a sustainable environment.  We work to establish those political, social and psychological
conditions that can assure peace, freedom and justice for all.  Check our Web Sites:

WILPF pays tribute to Kris Essex  The short life of Kris Essex, friend and community activist, offers inspiration
to those who knew her.  She overcame severe birth defects, difficult surgical treatments and physical limitations to
become a dedicated peace and justice activist. With very limited eyesight, she still generated a web site from
which she marketed peace supplies.  She attended WILPF meetings, rallies and protests, adding her commitment
to peace and justice everywhere.  She died this past October 30 in Tucson.

ATTENTION!!  If you receive this newsletter, and are not already a supporting member of WILPF, please send a
check to our treasurer (above) ($5 or more, if possible) to help cover expenses. We would like feedback from you,
telling us what your interests are, what you would like to do to participate in our Branch, how we can utilize your
talents & energies. (And also appreciate your telling us if you no longer want to be on our “list.”)
